PETITION TO VICTORIAN ANDREWS GOVERNMENT

MELBOURNE  OSTEOPOROSIS  SUPPORT  GROUP  INC.

Reg No. A0038140R

FRACTURE  LIAISON  SERVICES  IN  HOSPITALS.

This Petition is to ask the State Government to establish Fracture Liaison Services in our hospitals which exist in 40+ countries around the world but sadly lacking here.
Please click on this link to download the petition.

Currently, it is most likely that when a patient presents at hospital with a fracture, the patient is treated for that fracture and sent home.

With a Fracture Liaison Service, the hospital staff  enquire of the patient as to how the fracture occurred and if the patient has any risk factors for osteoporosis.
If risk factors are determined, the patient is then referred for a Dexa Scan (a diagnostic tool for osteoporosis), and then if deemed necessary following the Scan, the  patient is recommended treatment to prevent a second fracture.

This would be a cost saving measure for the government, where hospitals are concerned, because it would reduce admissions with fractures.
It would also avoid unnecessary pain and inconvenience to patients, not having a second fracture.

Please return the Petition to:   The President, Melbourne Osteoporosis Support Group, 32 Boronia Drive, Glen Waverley Vic. 3150
(not to the address at the bottom of the formbecause it can then be sent to David Davis with all the other forms at the same time).
